Fire/Emergency Evacuation of Academic Buildings Policy (Draft)

Purpose:

This policy establishes the evacuation process of Winona State University (WSU) academic buildings in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Rationale for Revision and Major Changes:

(This is for stakeholder review, not for publishing)

This policy draft is a proposed update for a legacy regulation:

The clear and succinct policy now states the responsibilities for specific individual roles. The updated procedure specifies the responsibilities of specific WSU community members not only in the event of an evacuation event but also prior to such events to prepare for them.

Suggested Stakeholder feedback deadline:

Feedback should be provided using this WSU form by 11/01/2024.

Policy:

Any WSU employee who becomes aware of a fire or other emergency requiring evacuation sounds an alarm and calls 911. When an alarm sounds, all WSU personnel exit buildings immediately. Employees are responsible for knowing emergency information for their work area and/or classroom, including location of alarms, emergency plans, evacuation exits, and alternate exits. The WSU Director of Security and WSU Safety Administrator post emergency response information and conduct periodic fire drills.
