[3-32] Animal

Refers to any live vertebrate animal (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, laboratory-bred rats and mice, and other lower vertebrates). For this policy, the term does not refer to the U.S. Department of Agriculture definition of animal, which includes any live or dead dog, cat, monkey (non-human primate mammal), guinea pig, hamster, rabbit, or other such warmblooded animal such as wild species of rats and mice.
